Mongolian Vertebrate
Parasite Project
|
Mammal voucher specimens are divided between the collections of the Department of Zoology at the National University of Mongolia
and the Division of Mammals of Museum of Southwestern Biology at the University of New Mexico. Holotypes, selected paratypes, and representative voucher specimens
resulting from this project are deposited at NUM. Selected paratypes and representative voucher specimens are
deposited at MSB. All mammalian tissues and associated genetic material are archived in the frozen tissue
collections in the Division of Genomic Resources at MSB. Currently there are not adequate facilities for the
housing of frozen tissue at NUM. Data on mammal specimens are available through MSB's data server. All collected ecto- and endo-parasites are divided between the NUM, the H.W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology, and Hokkaido University. The Manter Laboratory serves as the archive site for NUM while they establish their own parasite collection. Holotypes, selected paratypes, and representative voucher specimens resulting from this project will eventually be deposited at NUM; however, adequate storage and curation for parasite specimens does not yet exist in Mongolia, so the specimens will be kept at the HWML in a special section until Mongolia is able to develop the necessary infrastructure. Selected paratypes and representative voucher specimens are deposited at HWML and HU. Data on parasite specimens , as well as linked host/parasite data, are available through HWML's data server. |
