These two Gobi steppe localities are located just north of the Arts Bogd mountains. Topography is a combination of large open valleys, jutting rocky hills, shallow sandy arroyos, and mountains. The ground is covered in desert pavement with sparse vegetation.

Mongolian five-toed jerboa- Allactaga sibirica
Zaisan mole vole- Ellobius tancrei
Desert hamster- Phodopus roborovskii
Mongolian gerbil- Meriones unguiculatus
Midday gerbil- Meriones meridianus
Pallas's pika- Ochotona pallasi
Tolai hare- Lepus tolai
